Graphic Medicine

“Michelle Freeman’s images portray both vulnerability and strength, and capture the essence of solitude, unease, beauty, and even fear that often accompanies life as a girl and woman in contemporary society."

Dr Gemma McKenzie, Feminism, Graphic Zines and Maternity Rights, AIMS Journal Volume 3, No. 4, 2022.

I create atmospheric and painterly graphic narratives which address challenging and complex topics within the fields of human rights and social justice.

Blending dreamlike and cinematic qualities with the very familiar, my approach hooks the audience in, enabling critical engagement with challenging subjects.

The first ten years of my career were spent working directly with communities facing disadvantage and oppression. I love to work collaboratively with academics, charities, community groups and individuals to sensitively capture their viewpoints in innovative ways.

I am capable.

I am more than my pregnancy.
